October Barnard Castle Farmers’ Market a great success

Following the huge success of our visit to the last Middleton Market of the year the previous Sunday we had high hopes for our stall at the October Barnard Castle Farmers Market. We were not disappointed – it was a fabulous day. Over a dozen members of the community and visitors came on air to talk to our presenters who were manning the station throughout the market’s time of 10am until 3pm. They included stallholders, shoppers, event organisers, tourists and even a Norfolk band that were playing at the Tan Hill pub later that day.

It was also very heartening to hear from the many listeners who dropped by to say how much they were enjoying our broadcasts. Four people even came along with firm programming ideas for our next (Winter) season!

I had the honour of judging the best dressed stall and best dressed stall holder based on the Market theme of Apple Week. The prizes went to Just William and Loopy Lisa’s Fudge.

A big thank you from me to everyone who helped out to make the day such a great success. Charlotte Stow did a fabulous job setting things up, bringing along her Mum’s VW Beetle and generally talking to people on the stand. Kiddy and Peter Levett presented the Breakfast Show and worked on the stand. Barbara Levett and Ros Evans helped on the stand handing out leaflets and button holing passers by. It was also great to see members Steve White, Peter Martin, Les Blair and Wendy Short dropping in as they did their shopping. Wayne Mann spent most of the day on the stand and did a great job interviewing guests from the studio. A very special thank you goes out to Cat Chapman who stood in for Gary Burgham on the Dedications Show in the morning and, along with Wayne, was so enthused by the whole event later went back to the studio did a further two hours live broadcasting, talking to the numerous callers, until the end of the market at 3 o’clock. Well done everyone. Community radio at its best!

There is a whole selection of photographs from the day on our photo gallery. Barnard Castle Farmers’ Market is on the first Saturday of every month.
